The Hiland Fat Tire Complete Build
This off-road specialty bike is designed for the rider who doesn’t want the trail to dictate their journey. We took a rugged high-carbon steel frame and integrated the legendary Bafang G320 (BBSHD) 1000W motor, creating a machine capable of conquering sand, mud, and the steepest rocky inclines the DMV area has to offer. Because fat tires (24″ x 4″) naturally add more rotating mass, a standard motor simply wouldn’t cut it. That’s why we went with the BBSHD—a motor famous in the DIY community for its nearly indestructible internal gearing and massive 160 Nm of torque.
Engineering this build was a fun challenge. To ensure we maintained a balanced center of gravity while fitting a high-performance battery into the frame’s tight geometry, we utilized the Samsung 50S Wedge Mini Shark. It was a “perfect marriage” of components; the 50S cells provide the high-amperage capability required for those aggressive initial launches, effortlessly overcoming the weight of the oversized tires. Whether you’re a teen looking for a capable trail bike or an adult needing a “pothole-proof” commuter for the city, this Hiland conversion offers a level of raw power and stability that standard e-bikes can’t match. It’s compact, it’s aggressive, and it’s built to explore.
