About Us

Started by a husband and wife duo (hence the name) on a random date night where we rented two electric bikes and adventured around Old Town Alexandria. Even though it was way past the bedtimes of two adults in their mid-thirties, at the time, it sparked a new passion that was quite literally, learning to ride a bike again. We, seriously, got home at 4 AM and were exhausted but that night eventually led to building a custom battery pack, installing an electric motor, then comparing hubs versus mid mounts, and then being excited to ride our bikes to the farmer’s market and happy hour at a local taqueria joint.

We believe that adventuring, specifically bicycling, should be accessible for all. Not only is it fun, it’s a great way to get outside and stay moving with a bit of exercise. A common misconception about electric bikes is that it makes people lazy or is a cheap form of biking, when it is completely the opposite.

Any opportunity to get and stay active is a great one! Even with some assistance in pedaling, a little help to kick start any healthy habit is better than a sedentary one. If you were never going to get on a bike before, maybe electrification may make that first pedal a little easier. Was that a pun? I don’t know. Regardless, whether you just want sheer torque power from an electric motor or you are rehabilitating an injury, Duo Designs is there to support your choice.
